The Bob Fowler Memorial Motorcycle Ride
Mark your calendar for a ride to Key West Florida for the 11th Annual Bob Fowler Memorial Motorcycle Ride.  The ride will be departing from Fort Lauderdale prior to the start of the ICC 2014 Conference. We will ride to Key West  from Fort Lauderdale traveling along the edge of the Everglades on Krome Ave into the Florida Keys via Old Card Sound Road, which will encompass Key Biscayne down through Key Largo, Islamorada and Marathon over the Seven Mile Bridge to Key West. A commemorative tee shirt is included in the registration fee.

Off-Site Building Tour

This will be an exciting and informative tour of the International Hurricane Research Center (IHRC) at Florida International University. The IHRC is a multi-disciplinary research and education organization focused on a single mission: to reduce hurricane damage and loss of life through more effective wind mitigation. Florida International University is home of the 12-fan Wall of Wind. The Wall of Wind makes Florida International University the largest and most powerful university research facility of its kind and is capable of simulating a Category 5 hurricane – the highest rating on the Saffir-Simspon Hurricane Wind Scale. You will have the opportunity to tour the research center, discuss wind mitigation techniques and observe a wind test of a structure. 

In the afternoon we will tour the Miami Dolphins stadium. The tour will be conducted by the Head of Engineering.  We will tour the premium spaces, such as the Bank United Club Level, Gallery of Legends, Club LIV, the Owners Suite and Miami Dolphins Locker Room, as well as taking a walk on the field where incredible moments are made each week! Lunch will be provided.  Participants must register for the full day and will receive .6 CEUs.

Awards Luncheon
Come join your fellow attendees as we honor this year's recipients of the Gerald H. Jones Code Official of the Year, the ICC Fire Service Award and the ICC Affiliate Award. The Chapter of the Year and Region of the Year winners will be recognized as well. This year's Awards Luncheon guest speaker will be Jeremy Gilstrap, Vice President of Engineering for Simpson Strong-Tie. Hired in 2001, he began his career with the company working as a Branch Engineer supporting the sales force in the Southeastern region of the country. During this time he worked with engineers, architects, building officials, and contractors educating them about design principles with Simpson Strong-Tie products with a heavy focus on high wind design issues. In 2005 Mr. Gilstrap accepted a position as the Manager of Engineering Research and Development where he oversaw the staff responsible for the development of new products and ongoing support of existing products. In 2009 he started the Engineering Services Division of the company where he had managed a group of engineers who provided design services to customers.
