Welcome to the proposal submission portal! As you embark on this creative process, please consider the following steps and guidelines:
Step 1—Study the conference theme. The conference theme provides some context for the conference. The theme will give an overview of the major ideas proposals should tackle. This is a good time to set up a meeting with an honors director or faculty member to discuss potential ideas. You can access the 2022 conference theme here.

Step 2—Choose your presentation category. Choose between a paper presentation, poster presentation, roundtable, idea exchange, live performance, short film, or art gallery submission. Which format is best for you? If you can’t decide, ask your honors director or mentor for guidance.

Step 3—If you are proposing a paper, poster, or roundtable, review the strand descriptions. Select which best fits your idea. View our archive of last year’s conference presentations for ideas and inspiration.
Step 4—Write the proposal. Come up with an intriguing title that clearly states your project’s intent and makes a connection to the theme. Your project summary, or abstract, should be no more than 300 words. Use an objective, third-person voice. Include relevant statistics and data. And be sure to state the goal of your project—what will the audience learn? The evaluation rubric can be found here.

Step 5—Your director will need your email and registrant ID number to enter his/her contact information and indication of approval on your proposal. Once you have your honors director’s approval, you should go to the online proposal system and submit. The final deadline is Monday, November 29th, 2020.

Step 6—Proposal notifications will be sent out Friday, December 17th.
Remember, it is important to gain the guidance and support of your honors director, faculty member, or mentor. When approaching him or her to discuss participation in NRHC, be sure to also ask about financial support (how much funding does your honors program give to students who are accepted or chosen to go to NRHC).

If your proposal isn’t accepted, you may still register to attend NRHC. Of course, you should receive permission from your honors program director if you would like the trip to be funded by your institution.
Virtual option – For member institutions that are unable to attend in-person due to institutional policies banning student travel due to the Covid-19 pandemic or statewide travel restrictions, attendees can register virtually for $150. Registration includes
  • Live-streaming access to the Keynote Speaker, the Author Talk, the Presidential Address, and the Awards Ceremony
  • Opportunity to present in one of five formats – live paper presentation, pre-recorded poster presentation, pre-recorded Idea Exchange, pre-recorded live performance or short film, or pre-recorded art gallery presentation.
  • Ability to submit pre-recorded Open Mic Night entries
  • The opportunity to maintain involvement in the Student Activities Committee
  • Access to attend Student Decompression Chambers and any virtual conference programming
  • Eligibility for awards and scholarships
Virtual registrants will be required to provide proof of institution's policy banning off-campus travel, statewide travel restriction policy, or both.

There is no virtual option for Roundtable presentations. In the event of institutional travel restrictions or statewide gathering restrictions preventing in-person attendance, students who propose roundtable presentations and then are unable to attend can be switched to a different format.
Health and Safety Protocol – Registration for NRHC 2022 will require proof of Covid-19 vaccination uploaded to the registration system and/or a negative Covid-19 PCR test taken and submitted within 48 hours of the start of the conference. Failure to produce either may result in removal from the conference without refund. NRHC reserves the right to adjust health and safety guidelines to correspond with CDC recommendations.
